The following (non-staff) volunteers are needed
during the retreat
Psalmist; Grace-Giver; Scripture Reader; Bell Ringer
During the retreat, retreatants can deepen their
experience of community by volunteering to serve as a bell ringer, Scripture
reader, Psalmist or grace-giver. Sign-up sheets are located in the dining
area or on the table in the back of the meditation room.
Each retreatant is asked to volunteer for one or
more positions during the retreat. Volunteers will serve each position
for one full day.
Psalmist Instructions
Psalms: The sign-up sheet, a list of the daily Psalms and the book Psalms
Anew are located at the back of the Meditation room. The Psalmist/grace-giver
will read the Psalm from Psalms Anew after the first three bells are rung
at the morning sit. Please read SLOWLY.
Grace-giver Instructions
Grace: The Psalmist/grace-giver will give the grace before each meal.
You may choose your prayer from One Hundred Graces, or use one of your
own. One Hundred Graces is located on the table under the stairway.
Scripture / "Invitation to Love" Reader
Instructions
Scriptures: The sign-up sheet, a list of the daily Scriptures and the
Bible are located at the back of the Meditation room. The Scripture Reader
will read the Scripture from the Bible after the Psalmist has read the
Psalm at the first sit and after the first three bells are rung at the
mid-morning and afternoon sits. Please read SLOWLY.
At some retreats we read passages from Fr. Keating's
book "Invitation to Love" instead of scripture. The details
are the same as outlined above for the Scripture Reader.
Bell Ringer Instructions
Staff will ring the first bell 30 minutes before the morning sit. The
Bell Ringer will ring the bell 5 minutes before each sit, meal, videotape
and Mass. Please check with staff preparing the meal to make sure that
the meal will be served on time, before ringing the bell announcing meals.
