RealOne Player - Downloading, Configuration & Support

To hear CCH audio recordings you need to have installed the free RealOne Player on your computer.

Downloading

The free RealOne Player can be downloaded from http://www.real.com/player/index.html.  Keep following links from here for the "Free RealPlayer" - you do not need their (not free) "Player Plus" or Premium Player which are advertised on a 14-day trial basis.

Configuring the RealOne Player

The RealOne player, once installed, has some potentially unfriendly behavior.  It automatically checks the Real website periodically for updates.  This can cause some performance issues for computers with dialup internet connections.  After the player is installed, click on the Tools/Preferences menu.

On the "Internet Settings" section, the following settings will minimize automatic communication between the RealOne Player and their website...

Similarly, clearing the "Automatically download and install important updates" option on the AutoUpdate section will help to reduce automatic communication.

Configuring the RealOne Message Center

When you start the RealOne Player, you will also occasionally see a "Message Center" window pop up.  There are ways you can minimize its impact as well.

1. On the Message Center's "Options/Personalize Message Center" menu, turn off as many categories as you can.

2. On the Message Center's "Options/Delivery Preferences" menu, change the "Check for new messages" option to "Once or twice a month."

Support

One thing that CCH doesn't provide its members is computer support services!  The above information is provided for your convenience only.  If you have any difficulties downloading, installing or configuring the RealOne Player, please visit the support pages on the Real website at http://service.real.com/index.html.
